CITY OF ATHERTON: Burglary Update and Reward Information

Public safety stock 01

City of Atherton issued the following announcement on Dec 17.

As it was reported earlier, on December 8, 2020, burglars broke into a home in the Lindenwood neighborhood, and stole nearly $800,000 worth of jewelry.

On December 9th, using the recently installed Flock license plate reading cameras, our officers were able to identify a possible suspect vehicle related to this burglary.  We are working closely with other Bay Area and regional law enforcement agencies in an effort to identify and arrest these burglary suspects.  This is an excellent example of how effective our license plate reading cameras are, and will be, in the future to prevent, deter, and detect crime.

Since December 8, there have been several other burglaries in Atherton.  All involved the same Modus Operandi (MO) of entering the second floor master bedroom through a broken window or door window glass.

Residents are reminded to take the necessary precautions to protect your family and home.

You can help us prevent residential burglaries by doing the following:

  • When you’re not at home, make sure it looks like you are home.
  • Lock your doors and windows.
  • Use your alarm system.
  • Install a camera system.
  • Notify the Atherton Police while you are on vacation.
  • Keep exterior and interior lights on during hours of darkness.
  • Install motion lights around the exterior of your home.
  • Become familiar with your neighbors by exchanging contact information and notifying them when you are away.
By working together, we can try to reduce or eliminate residential burglaries within the Town of Atherton.

One of the Town's new license plate readers captured an image of a vehicle believed to be tied to a Dec. 8 burglary.
