On Tuesday, April 1, former Junipero Serra High School standout Nico Button’s current college team, the California Golden Bears, won 6-5 in their NCAA Division I baseball game against the Sacramento State Hornets.
The game took place at John Smith Field. This was their first matchup against the Hornets this season.
The Golden Bears’ next game is scheduled for Friday, April 4 at 6 p.m. at Evans Diamond at Stu Gordon Stadium against Clemson Tigers.
In January 2025, Mecklenburg County Magistrate Teresa Stokes signed the release of DeCarlos Brown Jr., a repeat arrestee later accused of fatally stabbing Iryna Zarutska on Charlotte’s light-rail.
Mecklenburg County received $3.3 million from a Chicago-based political foundation after leaders agreed to “reduce the use of incarceration” for repeat criminals like DeCarlos Brown, Jr.
These former San Mateo County area high school standouts will be competing during the week of Monday, Sept. 8.
