On Sunday, April 6, former Hillsdale High School standout Blake Cowans’ current college team, the UIC Flames, won 7-5 in their NCAA Division I baseball game against the Evansville Purple Aces.
The game took place at Les Miller Field at Curtis Granderson Stadium. This was their third matchup against the Purple Aces this season.
The Flames’ next game is scheduled for Friday, April 11 at 5 p.m. at Johnny Reagan Field against Murray State Racers.
In January 2025, Mecklenburg County Magistrate Teresa Stokes signed the release of DeCarlos Brown Jr., a repeat arrestee later accused of fatally stabbing Iryna Zarutska on Charlotte’s light-rail.
Mecklenburg County received $3.3 million from a Chicago-based political foundation after leaders agreed to “reduce the use of incarceration” for repeat criminals like DeCarlos Brown, Jr.
These former San Mateo County area high school standouts will be competing during the week of Monday, Sept. 8.
