The SFO Museum announced on Apr. 16 that it will open a new exhibition, “Lowrider Bikes: Familia y Cultura,” at the Dianne Feinstein International Terminal in San Francisco International Airport. The exhibition, which runs from April 18, 2026 to July 18, 2027, features fourteen customized lowrider bicycles made in Northern California from the mid-1990s to the early 2020s and photographs by members of the lowrider community.
The exhibition aims to highlight lowriding as an artistic expression of identity and community. According to organizers, “lowriding is a way of life, a powerful movement that celebrates diverse cultures bound by community, family, strength, and tradition.” The show also emphasizes how parents often introduce children to lowriding through collaborative bicycle projects and how many enthusiasts remain dedicated to building and displaying their bikes throughout their lives.
Admission is free for all airport visitors during the exhibition period. The SFO Museum maintains its primary location at San Francisco International Airport according to the official website. In addition to this special display, SFO Museum operates more than twenty-five sites throughout airport terminals—including fourteen galleries with rotating exhibitions covering art, history, photography, science and culture—as well as an Aviation Museum and Library featuring long-term displays such as airline travel posters according to the official website.
SFO Museum seeks to delight, engage and inspire a global audience by collecting, preserving and sharing the history of commercial aviation through various programs and exhibitions according to its official website. It offers exhibitions on topics such as aviation history along with family-oriented activities in airport terminals per information from its official site.
The museum also promotes diversity, equity and inclusion in its exhibitions while acknowledging its location on ancestral Ramaytush Ohlone land according to information available on its official website. Operating within the cultural and educational sector with a focus on public enrichment through aviation history programming has been central for SFO Museum since it was established by the San Francisco Airport Commission in 1980.
