Cost of college went down for all students at the College of San Mateo

In-state tuition and fees fell 5.1 percent for 2018-19 at the College of San Mateo, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

California residents paid $1,344 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $56 less than the $1,400 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 368.8 percent more than residents this year, or $6,300. Their price tag was unchanged from $6,300 in 2017-18.

About 82 percent of the school's undergraduate population are California residents. About 1 percent are residents of other states and 17 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 47 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 378 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.7 million and 3 students took out student loans totaling more than $18,308.

Including all undergraduates (8,924), 3,360 students used grants or scholarships totaling $7.8 million, and 52 students took out $339,707 in federal student loans.
