City of Long Beach issued the following announcement on Nov 24.
On Friday, Nov. 20, the Long Beach Independent Redistricting Commission (Commission) selected the remaining four members and two alternates to serve on the Commission, which is responsible for redrawing the City’s nine council district boundaries following the release of the Census data.
“The commission reflects the diversity of our community and I’m certain they will do an excellent job drawing fair lines for our city,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “Thanks to voters who agreed to establish a Redistricting Commission with the approval of Measure DDD in 2018.”
Last month, the City of Long Beach Ethics Commission established a subpool of 23 qualified applicants and randomly appointed the first nine commissioners, who were tasked with filling the remaining six vacancies with candidates from the subpool.
The newly selected members and alternates include:
- Genna Beckenhaupt, Member
- Feliza Ortiz-Licon, Member
- Kelly Nhim, Member
- Zhelinrentice Scott, Member
- Josias Gonzalez, Alternate
- Melody Osuna, Alternate
The Commission is tentatively expected to hold its first meeting as a complete body by early Jan. 2021, pending the onboarding of the final members and alternates. The redistricting process will commence in 2021 following the release of the 2020 Census data.
