Patent 16

There were 16 patents granted in Redwood City in the week ending Aug. 8, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is six more than the week before. Patents included a guidewire positioning catheter.

The earliest patent filed which was granted in the week ending Aug. 8 belonged to Oracle International Corporation who filed in July 3, 2016.

The number of approved patents in the U.S. grew steadily from roughly 225,000 in 2009 to more than 285,000 in 2019. The number of patents approved suffered a slight downturn in 2020.

Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog said the system underneath patents have become unwieldy, specifically for medical innovations.
