Innovation: 1 patent granted in Malibu in week ending Aug. 15

Patent 18

There was one patent granted in Malibu in the week ending Aug. 15, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is one less than the week before. The patent was for a system and method for estimating uncertainty of the decisions made by a supervised machine learner.

The patent was filed on Jan. 30, 2019

The number of approved patents in the U.S. grew steadily from roughly 225,000 in 2009 to more than 285,000 in 2019. The number of patents approved suffered a slight downturn in 2020.

Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog said the system underneath patents have become unwieldy, specifically for medical innovations.
