A new exhibition at San Francisco International Airport's International Terminal highlights the history of the AIDS Memorial Quilt and addresses the ongoing epidemic. The Quilt serves as a poignant reminder of the AIDS crisis, carrying a message of love and compassion. It raises awareness about acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), which is the most advanced stage of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Through creating panels and public displays, the Quilt educates people to help slow the spread of HIV/AIDS globally while also offering emotional healing for those affected by the disease. With nearly 50,000 panels commemorating over 110,000 individuals who have died from AIDS-related illnesses, it stands as the world's largest community art project. The NAMES Project in San Francisco founded the Quilt in 1987, and it is now permanently managed by the National AIDS Memorial.

The exhibition is accessible pre-security at San Francisco International Airport's International Terminal and will be open to all visitors from February 8, 2025, until January 25, 2026. There is no fee to view this display.

The SFO Museum was established in 1980 by the San Francisco Airport Commission with a mission to engage and inspire a global audience through diverse programming. It collects, preserves, interprets, and shares commercial aviation history to enrich public experience at San Francisco International Airport. Accredited by the American Alliance of Museums since 1999, it remains unique as an accredited museum located within an airport.

The museum operates more than twenty-five sites across airport terminals, including fourteen galleries featuring rotating exhibitions on various subjects such as art, history, photography, science, and culture. Among these sites is the San Francisco Airport Commission Aviation Library and Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum that houses a permanent collection of over 160,000 objects related to commercial aviation history.

San Francisco International Airport aims to provide an exceptional airport experience with easy access, thoughtful amenities, sustainable design elements, and inspiring artworks and exhibits.
